Demonstration

Perennial biomass crops are well suited to being planted on farms as part of mixed agricultural systems incorporating grassland or arable crops; we don’t expect monocultures with entire farms given over to willow or Miscanthus.

We will plant ‘typical’ 7 hectare fields of each crop using modern establishment techniques; willow at Myerscough College near Preston, and Miscanthus at Bishop Burton College near Hull. Both Colleges are actively involved in educating the next generation of farmers and regularly host visits for stakeholders across the agricultural industry.
